Pippa Holt's kaftans are handmade by artisan weavers on a traditional backstrap loom - each piece takes one month to complete. This new kaftan for Resort’19 offers a new design to the brand using all one colour. Artisan Guelasia has used pericon and indigo to naturally dye the threads. No.168 makes a chic city or vacation staple. The oversized shape means it looks as great belted, as it looks worn loose.

It takes one month to make a Pippa Holt kaftan and, due to the way they are hand-crafted, no two are the same. Naturally dyed cotton thread is woven into cloth using a backstrap loom, an ancient weaving technique that has been used by generations in this community. Stylist Pippa Holt decided to collaborate with a group of artisans from a remote part of Mexico to create a colourful collection of kaftans for the beach and the city. She discovered them while living in Houston; nothing had prepared her for the searing Texan heat and she ended up wearing them every day. Head weaver, Felipa has over fifty years experience and along with her daughter, Angelica and a group of artisans they create one off pieces following age-old traditions. These kaftans were light, stylish and practical and yet at the same time they recalled far-flung shores,” explains Holt. They recreated the sense of freedom of dressing that she has always enjoyed growing up in Australia. The colours which were original and unique filled her with so much pleasure. Holt’s editorial background as an editor at British Vogue, a degree in fashion design combined with her love of travel is very much evident in her collection.+
