Former British VOGUE stylist Pippa Holt works with artisans to create handmade kaftans using traditional techniques. This children's version of the classic red cotton kaftan is hand-woven on a backstrap loom and decorated with a white geometric motif, adding a bohemian feel.
+It was while living in Houston that stylist, Pippa Holt first discovered the work of a group of weavers in a remote Mexican village. These kaftans were light, stylish and practical and yet at the same time they were recalled far-flung shores and exotic climes.” They recreated the sense of freedom of dressing that she has always enjoyed growing up in Australia. The colours which were original and unique filled her with so much pleasure that she decided to collaborate with them to create a colourful collection for the beach and the city. The result is Pippa Holt kaftans. Each one takes a month to make and, due to the way they are hand-crafted, no two are the same. Naturally dyed cotton thread is woven into cloth using a backstrap loom, an ancient weaving technique that has been used by generations in this community. Head weaver, Felipa has over fifty year's experience and along with her daughter, Angelica and a group of artisans they create one off pieces following age-old traditions “I love the authenticity of these kaftans and how comfortable they are to wear. I call them my "holiday Heroes: they pack small, work day and night on a beach, in a city, with or without a belt. They are incredibly versatile.”
