Former British VOGUE stylist Pippa Holt creates kaftans with Mexican artisans that are handmade using traditional techniques. Decorated with burgandy motifs, this version is cut from mint and white striped cotton and has a fun supermini length. The burgundy colour comes from the cochineal insect from which the natural dye ‘carmine’ is derived. Native to the village in Mexico with the kaftans are created, this insect lives on cacti feeding on plant moisture and nutrients. These insects are found on the pads of prickly pear cacti, then are brushed off and dried to create the dye. Due to the natural dye process, No.117 is a limited edition.

The Pippa Holt kaftan label is a celebration of Holt’s love of indigenous textiles, bold colours and far-flung travel. Collaborating with a group of artisans in a remote part of Mexico (Felipa, head weaver has been weaving for more than 50 years), together they have created a range of bold, colourful and stylish kaftans that exude an understated luxury which works as well in the city as it does on the beach.
Holt's editorial background as a stylist at British Vogue, a degree in fashion design combined with her love of travel is very much evident in her collection. Growing up on the beaches of Australia, she was inspired by her grandmother's style of tropical dressing at her seaside holiday home on The Great Barrier Reef.
